When exploring Switzerland, the Swiss Alps is always my top priority. It’s the highlight of any trip to this incredible country, and I recommend spending most of your time there. Only visit cities outside the Alps if you have extra time. There’s a good reason for this—the unforgettable adventures and breathtaking landscapes are just the beginning.
If you’re visiting Basel, a quick stay is enough—no more than a day. That might seem short, but it’s plenty of time to see the city’s most beautiful and photogenic places. I’ve picked seven spots worth visiting, which you can find in this post.

Basel Town Hall

Basel Minster

Saint Paul’s Church

Rhine River and Mittlere Bridge

Basel Messe Exhibition Center

Tinguely Fountain & Museum

Vitra Design Museum

Go Beyond Basel
Did you know that Basel is located at the borders of three countries: Switzerland, Germany, and France? If you’re arriving by plane, you can easily travel to any of these countries. To the north, the Black Forest is the closest major destination, and to the south, you’ll find the Canton of Bern, home to the beautiful Jungfrau Region.
If you’re looking for more travel ideas in Switzerland, check out my 2-week Switzerland itinerary or my 1-week itinerary for Central Switzerland, which covers the cantons of Bern and Lucerne—both just about an hour from Basel. Take a look!
