Our Story & The Author
WanderInEurope was born from a love for travel, a curiosity for history, and a dream to explore the entire old continent for its beauty.
Eljon, the founder of WanderInEurope, is an engineer by profession but a writer at heart. After a year of traveling in 2019, he realized he wanted to share the joy of visiting new places, especially with those who haven’t experienced it yet. Traveling, particularly climbing the mountains, helped him to break away from anxiety, changing his life forever. His goal is for people to find beauty, allowing them to forget their worries or be filled with awe, which benefits our overall well-being. He hopes people see life as a gift, letting us witness spectacular sights, experience amazing cultures, and hear the fascinating stories that have shaped our world today.
He pursues exploring Europe and writing about his discoveries because of his deep interest in this continent. His passion for Europe began when he was a teen, reading books and watching movies inspired by Western civilization. The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Merlin (2008), and Wheel of Time are just a few of his favorites. From the stories of kings and queens, empires, to the scenic backdrops of their castles and journeys, each made him dream of visiting Europe more and more.
As he grows and experiences life, he has come to realize that his passion for exploring Europe is even more deeply rooted in his religious heritage — Christianity and Catholicism. He craves to see more spectacular churches, which serve as his spiritual uplift. These religious sites always make him marvel and contemplate the greatness of God. It made him believe that nothing and no one else has ever inspired humans to create such awe-inspiring structures other than God. Each time he witnesses such beauty, he is inspired anew to live a meaningful life — to create something that ignites passion in others and makes their lives meaningful as well. Catholicism, which flourished in Europe and reached his home, gave him a sense of purpose today.
Born in a developing country — the Philippines — life hasn’t been easy for him. Traveling is never cheap, which has helped him develop skills in creating budget-friendly itineraries. Free attractions, like breathtaking viewpoints and marvelous architectural sights, are his top priority whenever he plans a trip.
Coincidentally, these kinds of attractions suit his preference in traveling, which is mostly just sightseeing. Over the years, he has mastered using travel tools to craft his ideal trips: Google Maps, AllTrails, and Komoot to find the shortest, most scenic, and most efficient routes; Peakvisor to discover scenic spots; Google Earth for photogenic locations; Streetview for hidden gems; and TripAdvisor and vlog/blog research for the latest travel tips.
Since it started publishing articles in 2022, WanderInEurope has been providing detailed travel guidance to destinations that wanderers and explorers would enjoy. As of July 2024, WanderInEurope boasts more than 100 articles on scenic attractions, architectural marvels, and historical sites. You can explore and use travel itineraries (budget-friendly), travel inspirations (listicles), and guides to specific attractions within Austria and Switzerland for free.
Beginning August 2024, WanderInEurope will shift its focus to producing content more tailored for wanderers and explorers. While we will still provide budget itineraries, detailed guides, and travel inspiration listicles, you can also look forward to more maps, infographics, and similar content that are easier to digest and use during your wandering and exploration.
